Temporary Structures and Construction Support

Temporary Structures and Construction Support

Engineering That Keeps Construction Moving Safely

Temporary structures carry real loads and pose real risks. A shoring system that fails during construction can kill workers, damage adjacent properties, and bring a project to a halt for months. Frontier Structural Engineering designs temporary structural systems with the same rigor applied to permanent construction, because the consequences of failure are just as serious.

Contractors who need a stamped shoring or falsework drawing quickly learn that the quality of the engineering matters as much as the speed. Frontier delivers both.

Shoring and Reshoring Design

Shoring is required whenever construction loads must be transferred through a slab or structure that has not yet reached its full strength, or when construction activity imposes loads that the permanent structure was not designed to carry. Frontier designs multi-story shoring systems for concrete construction, provides calculations demonstrating that existing slabs can support the imposed loads, and coordinates shoring layouts with the contractor’s equipment and forming schedule.

Reshoring design, which transfers loads from green concrete through previously shored levels, requires careful analysis of concrete maturity and load redistribution. We provide reshoring calculations that are compliant with ACI requirements and legible to field personnel.

Excavation Support and Underpinning

Excavation adjacent to existing structures creates lateral earth pressure and settlement risk that must be managed with engineered support systems. Frontier designs soldier pile walls, sheet pile bracing, and cross-lot bracing for excavations in close proximity to buildings, utilities, and public rights-of-way. Where existing foundations must be underpinned to allow excavation, we design micropile and pit-and-fill underpinning systems appropriate to the soil conditions and available access.

Temporary Bracing for Steel Erection

Steel frames require temporary bracing during erection to resist wind loads and out-of-plumb forces before permanent connections are complete. Frontier designs temporary erection bracing systems and provides guidance to the steel erector on the sequence of connection installation and brace removal required to keep the structure stable throughout the erection sequence.

Formwork Shoring for Concrete Pours

Concrete formwork and its shoring must be designed for the fluid pressure of fresh concrete, construction live loads, and impact from placement equipment. Frontier provides formwork shoring designs that comply with ACI 347, ASCE 37, and the contractor’s specific forming system.

Get Your Shoring Drawing Stamped

Most temporary structure scopes can be quoted and turned around within one to two weeks of receiving contractor drawings and geotechnical data. Call 719 247-2928 to discuss your project timeline.
