Frontier Structural Engineering designed a new level supporting a doubling of the bouldering area at the Gripstone Climbing Gym.
Sitting on concrete over metal deck on open web steel joists and knee braced moment frame steel framing, the platform supports the new bouldering wall and climbers, bracing to the existing structure provided resistance and stability for the top of the bouldering walls for climbing loads and earthquakes which rare in the region.
Knee bracing provided a convenient and efficient design for steel erection avoiding field welding. foundations were designed to minimize the amount of excavation and handling of dirt.
